Roy Hickey

Of Fairgrove, age 92, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Pastor Richard Lawther will officiate with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm, and then at the church on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church in Fairgrove. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Roy was born August 30, 1918 in Fairgrove, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy and Caroline (Layer) Hickey. He and Elaine Greania were united in marriage February 14, 1940; they were married for 63 years. Elaine preceded him in death on September 29, 2003. Roy was the Chairman of the Sugarbeet Growers Association, Vice Chairman of the National Sugarbeet Growers Association, and farmed until his heath no longer permitted him to in 1989. He loved to dance, was a people person, and always had a smile for everyone he met. Roy leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Carol and husband, Robert Morton, Catherine and husband, John Knoerr, and W. Larry and wife, Barbara Hickey; eight grandchildren, Donald and wife, Rita Morton, Vicky and husband, James Russell, Darwin Morton, Douglas and wife, Robin Knoerr, Michelle and husband, James Otis, Valerie and husband, Chad Hartwick, Stacy and husband, Scott Koskinen, and Michael and wife, Casey Hickey; twelve great-grandchildren, Lani Morton, Bradley and Kyle Knoerr, Daniel and Katelyn Russell, Alayna and Katrin Otis, Sophie and Clayton Hartwick, Georgia Hickey, and Masen and Chloe Koskineni; sister, Hazel and husband, Eldon Engstrom; sister-in-law, Sandra Hickey; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elaine; siblings and their spouses, Robert and wife, Janet Hickey, Ruth and husband, Harold Ricketts, and Harold Hickey.
