Age 74, of Flint, passed away at home surrounded by his family. In accordance with Bob’s wishes cremation will take place; with burial to follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Bob was born on April 12, 1950, in Flint, Michigan, he is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Wayne and Phyllis (Finkbeiner) Fortune. Educated locally, Bob graduated from Atherton High School with the class of 1968; from there, Bob would earn his associates degree from Mott Community College. Heeding the call of duty, Bob enlisted in the United States Army, on September 10, 1969; proudly serving as a Redeye Gunner. Sergeant Bob Fortune earned his National Defense Service Medal and his Marksmanship Badge before receiving his honorable discharge on November 27, 1970, from Fort Dix, New Jersey. He would then transfer to the United States Army Reserves until January 1, 1975, as a Drill Sergeant, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon returning to civilian life, Bob would marry the love of his life, Joan Aagesen on October 21, 1972. Their union would be blessed with three children. Bob worked in the construction industry for most of his adult life, retiring from Carter Lumber in Burton in 2005. In his free time, Bob loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and woodworking. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #64, as well as the Auto City Eagles Aerie #3485.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Joan Fortune; three children: Jason (Chris) Fortune, Melisa (Rob) Rogers, Justin (Laura) Fortune; six grandchildren: Blayne (Celeste) Fortune, Faith Fortune, Bryce Fortune, Kelsie (Chris) Gunn, Tori (John) Becker, Trenton (Paige) Rogers; 10 great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Eli, Luna, Colson, Christopher, Cailin, Cali, Russell, Robbie, Paisley.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Patty Sorensen.
