Age 70, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, July 13, 2020, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County, surrounded by his family. In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 8, 2020, at the Richfield Church of the Nazarene, 7524 E. Mt. Morris Rd., Otisville, MI. Reverend Scott Salo and Dr. Alan Duce to officiate with burial to follow at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Richfield Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice House of Shiawassee County. Envelopes are available at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Jim's tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com. Jim was born July 8, 1950, to Reino and Barbara Salo, and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Redford High School and continued his education at Olivet Nazarene College until joining the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. After serving as a Minuteman Missile Technician, he finished his education at Nazarene Bible College and then became a police officer in Colorado. Jim returned to Michigan, as a Pastor and Evangelist for over 46 years in the Wesleyan Church, Church of the Nazarene, and Congregational Church. His ministry, along with his appreciation of law enforcement, extended to decades of police chaplaincy with the Michigan State Police, American Police Chaplains Association, and Burton Police Department. Jim was a man of God, who loved his family and serving others through ministry, but also enjoyed reading, camping in the U.P., hunting, golfing, shipwrecks, and of course, U of M football! The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice House of Shiawassee County, where Jim and his family were blessed and ministered to in his final days. Jim is loved and survived by his wife of 47 years, Liz; son, Nathan (Tammy) of Bozeman, MT; son, Scott (Lynnette) of Clio, MI; grandchildren: Jonathan (Cami), Brendon, Joshua, Hallee, Hayden, and Katelynn; mother Barbara; brothers: Jack (Jo), Steve (Vicki), Tim (Kareena), and Matthew (Lynn).
