Ray Winchester

January 31, 1923 — October 16, 2019

Age 96, of Clio, formerly of Mt. Morris, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at McLaren Flint, surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place, 11:00 am, Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, with graveside Military Honors. Ray’s family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, on Friday, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Friday evening, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home at 7:00 pm, to pray the Rosary, followed by a Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Service conducted by the Knights of Columbus #4285. On Saturday, Ray will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Ray was born on January 31, 1923, in Dongola, Missouri, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert and Pearl (Elledge) Winchester. Ray proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he met June Reed, and the two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on July 5, 1947, in Birch Run. Ray owned and operated Ray’s Barber Shop in Flint, for 46 years, until his retirement in 1991. Ray was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus # 4285. He enjoyed spending time with his large family, golfing, gardening, riding his motorcycle and his bike, and fixing anything and everything. Ray leaves to cherish his memory, six children: Sue Monnett, Don and wife, Joyce Winchester, Bill and wife, Jackie Winchester, Rita Morgan, Lynn and husband, Dr. Rick Boyes, and Nancy and husband, Glen McMillan; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
