Michael Slattery

Age 82, of Mt. Morris, died peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Ascension Genesys. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 22, 2019, at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning and Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau concelebrating with cremation and private burial to follow. Mike's family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, on Saturday, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Sunday, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm and again from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Sunday evening, family and friends will gather at 6:30 pm for a Hibernians & Life Remembrance Celebration followed by a Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Service and 4th Degree Chalice Ceremony conducted by the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council #4285. On Monday, Mike will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church. Mike was born June 27, 1937, in Mt. Morris, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick and Bernadine (Drake) Slattery. Raised in Mt. Morris, he graduated from St. Mary High School with the class of 1955. After graduation, he went to work at Chevrolet, where he served an apprenticeship and continued his education earning an engineering degree from GMI, retiring with 35 years of service. He went on to work for GM for several more years as a consultant. Mike and Vera Vanadia were united in marriage on July 19, 1958, and sadly, she preceded him in death on September 13, 2014. Mike was an active member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, the Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council #4285, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was devoted to his family. In 2015, Mike would meet Norma Tobias. The two dated, fell in love and joined their families together on March 5, 2016. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma; children: Michael and wife, Maria Milogros Slattery, Shawn and wife, Gloria Slattery, Thomas and wife, Johanne Slattery, A-Lisa and husband, Tedd Schummer, Scott and wife, Robin Pillow and Gary and wife, Kim Pillow; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way; brother, Bob Slattery; sister, Margaret Head; and numerous nieces; nephews; and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vera; and many brothers and sisters.
