Mary Vanwormer

Of Genesee, age 98, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at Owosso Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor Karen Williams will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Mary's family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Sunday, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Genesee United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mary was born January 11, 1912 in St. Charles, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael and Ethel (Fairless) McKenna. She and Clyde Thomas VanWormer were united in marriage June 16, 1934 in Saginaw. He preceded her in death November 7, 2005 at the age of 98. Mary taught in a one room school house in the Genesee School District for 5 years, and at Jack Haas Elementary for 17 years before she became principal. She proudly served as the principal for 10 years before retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, painting ceramics, playing golf, fishing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She was a active member of the Genesee United Methodist Church serving in many capacities. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, special friends; Bill and wife Mavis Miller and family, Bruce and wife Carol Boultinghouse, Stacy and husband Eric Calcatarra and their daughter Gwen, Les and Linda Hillman, Marsha Jones and girls, and Dr. Eldon and wife Sandy Vance; three nieces, Maryalice, Christine and Joan. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde, six brothers and one sister.
