Age 84, of Clarkston, died Friday, June 12, 2020, and McLaren Hospital-Oakland, surrounded by her family. A graveside funeral service will take place at 12:30 pm, Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Kevin Dixson to officiate. Mary was born in Flint on September 29, 1935, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Winifred (Whitehurst) Gunther. The youngest of 14 children, Mary was raised in Mt. Morris and graduated from Beecher High School with the class of 1955. Mary met and married the love of her life, Earl Comfort, and their marriage brought forth three wonderful children. Sadly, Earl preceded her in death on September 16, 2016. Mary worked for Buick City in Flint for 35 years until her retirement in 1995. In 1996, Mary’s first of six grandchildren was born. Mary devoted her life to her children and then to her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan. In high school, Mary played basketball, softball, and field hockey. She had a genuine love for all sports. Watching her grandchildren play sports gave her great pride and much joy. Those who knew Mary would say she had a sweet spirit, and her kindness and compassion surpassed anything of this world. Right up until the end, she always had a kind word and a sweet smile. She will be greatly missed. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Earl Comfort, Robin Aranowski, Allen and wife, Melissa Comfort; grandchildren: Jason Comfort, Neil Comfort, Cathrine Aranowski, Jacob Aranowski, Maeve Comfort, Leo Comfort; sister: Martha Gosselin; and several other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life: Earl Comfort; siblings: Phillip Gunther, Eugene Gunther, Willis “Bud” Gunther, Carl Gunther, Richard Gunther, Robert Gunther, Charles “Noel” Gunther, Mildred Patterson, Ruth Endicot, Harriett Powers, Shirley Murgis; son-in-law: Scott Aranowski; daughter-in-law: Susan Comfort.
