Mark Stephen Read

Age 67, of Flint, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, at home with his family by his side. A funeral service will take place 2:00 pm, Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris; Pastor David Mulherin to officiate with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Mark’s family will be present at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon to receive friends from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm. Mark was born the son of Mr. Admiral Gonser & Mrs. Wilma Harmon. Educated locally, Mark attended Beecher High School until the age of 17 when he heeded the call of duty with his mom’s permission and enlisted in the United States Navy. During his tour of duty, Mark was stationed on the USS Midway until his discharge in 1980. He would meet and marry the love of his life, Rebecca Shrum on March 23, 1979, in Flint. Upon returning to civilian life, Mark would work in the construction industry as a rough framer, until becoming the heavy equipment operator for Lissner & Sons Inc in Grand Blanc; from there, Mark would begin working at Curbco Inc. In his free time, Mark enjoying creating things out of metal such as sun catchers, and wind chimes. He also was known for being able to play the piano, guitar, banjo and harmonica by ear.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca; two children: Joshua Read; and Jamie Read; two grandchildren: Allana and Kiera; three siblings: Linda (Charlie) Bretana, Cathy and Tammie Read; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

Preceded in death by his mom; and his sister, Jennifer Lawson.
