Age 48, died Monday, February 22, 2016, at Mclaren-Flint. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 11:00 am at St Roberts Catholic Church. Fr. Gordon Reigle to officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will be present at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tributes Services-Mt. Morris on Monday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Tuesday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Wednesday from 10:00 am until time of Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mark’s memory to Foundation for Alcoholism Research. Mr. Ferguson was born July 11, 1967 in Birmingham, Alabama the son of John and Mary (Johnson) Ferguson. He graduated from Catholic High School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1985 and served in the US Navy from 1988 through 1993 as an Ocean Systems Technician (Analyst) in Adak, Alaska. Central Michigan University awarded his Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in 1998, majoring in geology. Mr Ferguson received a Master of Science degree from the University of Toledo in 2002. He loved his thesis work with Preofessor Emeritus Stu Dean, Mapping large sections of West Virginia and creating geological maps of the area. While completing coursework Mark was able to assist teaching classes at both universities, along with Mott Community College and the University of Michigan-Flint as a guest lecturer. He enjoyed rock hunting and climbing, caving, hiking, and star gazing. He was an exceptional cook and enjoyed feeding and entertaining everyone with his food and stories. He also loved watching Auburn football, “War Eagle!” Left to cherish Mark’s memory are his wife: Janet (Middleton) Ferguson; son: Andrew Ferguson; daughter: Jenna Ferguson; grandson: Nickolai John Ferguson; his parents, brothers: Michael (Inger) Ferguson, and Matthew (Danna) Ferguson; sister: Kathy (Gabe) Poche; nieces: Jennifer, Beth, Sarah, and Daly; and nephew: Tim. Mark was preceeded in death by his grand parents, Henry and Sue Ferguson, and Flloyd and Petrina Johnson; nephew, Davis Ferguson; and special uncle, Glenn Kirsch. The family would like to extend thanks and recognition to all of the CCU staff at McLaren-Flint. There couldn’t have been a more caring, professional group.
