Marion Dawson

Age 94, of Flint, died, Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Briarwood in Flint surrounded by her loving family. A funeral celebrating Marion’s life will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Burial will take place in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Marion was born August 11, 1923, in Ithaca, New York the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Aaron Howard and Alice (Hughes) Genung. She attended high school in Ithaca, New York. Following high school, she worked as a secretary for nearly fifty years with many large firms, eventually retiring from California Federal Bank in Los Angeles in 1990. She enjoyed playing scrabble, knitting and crocheting scarfs and afghans, which attributed to her instructing craft classes in a senior center in California. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Sandra Abbott and RJ Dawson; grandchildren: Gary Jr. (Suzy) Abbott, Randy (Jodi) Abbott, R. Dusty Dawson and Christopher Dawson; several great-grandchildren; sister: Edith Henry; brother: Clarence Genung; sister-in-law: Elaine Genung; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Wilber Genung and Warren “Buster” Genung, and sister Helen Barnes. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff and employees at Briarwood and Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
