Of Vassar, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at her home on her 84th birthday. A private memorial service will take place and cremation has taken place. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Cass River QuilterAaas Guild. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Marie was born August 31, 1925 in Itawamba County, Mississippi the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ollie and Esta (Wallace) Shaw. She and John "Ed" McKenney were united in marriage in Angola, Indiana. Marie moved to Vassar in the 9th grade and was a graduate of Vassar High School. She would go on to attend Mott Community College in Flint. She owned and operated the Mari Grace Shop in Vassar for many years as well as McKenneyAaas Berry Farm. Marie was a member of the Cass River QuilterAaas Guild for many years and was a Brownie Troop Leader. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, southern cooking and traveling to anywhere. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are, husband, John "Ed" McKenney, three children; John Leonard and wife Susan McKenney, Patsy and husband Dan Schell, Donald McKenney, nine grandchildren; Amy Cross, Michael McKenney, Fred Welsh, Katie Cherne, Patricia Droz, Joshua McKenney, twins, Juliana McKenney and Bethany Wickham and Jordan McKenney, six great-grandchildren; Nicole, twins, Kaylynn and Autumn, Matthew, Cody and Frederick Aiden (on the way), her extended family, the Trevino Family, lifelong friend, Jeannie Safford, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, James V. "Bud", four sisters; May, Mavis, Murlie and Mary Dean and son-in-law, Robert Thane.
