Marcelina Conquest

May 30, 1921 — January 21, 2010

Of Swartz Creek, previously of Genesee Township, age 88, died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor Sam Stone will officiate with private burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 24, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm, and again on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be directed to Project Linus. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.Marcelina was born May 30, 1921, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of William and Harrietta (Barr) Vaillancount. Marcelina attended Alden High School and graduated in 1939. During World War II she worked at A.C. making machine gun parts. She met William (Bill) Conquest were united in marriage on August 22, 1943.Marcelina worked over twenty years for the Genesee School District, retiring in 1983. She was a longtime volunteer at Crossroads Village. After suffering a stroke in 2006, her volunteering was limited to crocheting for Project Linus. She completed 190 childrenAaas blankets for the organization. Marcelina had a love for hummingbirds as well. She was once thrilled to hold one in her hand as she rescued it from a window. Marcelina is survived by her son; Lester (Jane) Knickerbocker of Stevensville, daughter; Barbara Newtown of Swartz Creek, grandchildren Jack (Jeanne) Arbanas of Buchanan, Russell Knickerbocker of Heilbronn, Germany, Janan (Bill) Hollerback of Stevensville, and Joel (Leslie) Arbanas of Baroda, sister-in-law; Della Vaillancount of Alden, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, three sisters, and grandsons; Mark and Andrew Knickerbocker.
