October 3, 1952 — June 11, 2020

COVID-19 UPDATE: With the recent guidelines limiting the number of people to less than 10 at any gathering, we are asking that you consider other ways to help support family and friends during this difficult time as an alternative to attending a visitation or funeral. Age 67, of Mt. Morris, died Thursday, June 11, 2020, at his home. A graveside service will take place Monday, July 13, 2020, at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Ralph Pieper to officiate. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family on Lonny’s tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com. Lonny was born in Flint on October 3, 1952. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Loren and Dorthea (Hamilton) Hoyt. Growing up in Mt. Morris, Lonny was educated locally and graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the Class of 1970. After high school, Lonny went on to receive his Associate's Degree from Mott Community College, and then continued his studies at the University of Michigan-Flint. Lonny went on to work at Hurley Medical Center as a patient transporter for many years. While in high school, Lonny enjoyed playing the flute in the band. Lonny held on to that flute, and when his nieces were old enough, he passed his love of playing on to them. Not having children of his own, Lonny loved all of his nieces and nephews as his own. He also had a love for all animals and treated them like his children. He had a very special love for his dog, Loki, who will be buried by his side. Lonny was a quiet man who enjoyed spending time in the Porcupine Mountains, trail hiking, walking, and riding his bike. Lonny was a kind-hearted, gentle soul and spent many loving years tending to his mother. He was known by his family as the smartest man they knew who loved to read and complete crossword puzzles. Lonny’s 2nd family were the friends he had made at Down the Hatch North and The Oasis Bar. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Lonny leaves to cherish his memory, his ex-wife and dearest friend: Vickie Tarno; siblings: Terry and wife, Kathy Hoyt, Marc and wife, Cindy Hoyt, Deniece and husband John, Reynolds; many nieces and nephews. Lonny was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Janice Hoyt; and nephew: Scott Lewandowski. Friends may share a memory with the family at martinfuneralhome.com.
