Linda Travis

May 28, 1941 — April 28, 2019

In loving memory of Linda May Travis Linda passed away peacefully, with the love of her family by her side, on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at the MediLodge of Montrose. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Service in Mt. Morris with Linda's nephew, Rev. Steve Turner, officiating. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Linda's family will receive family and friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 am until time of service. She was born in Flint, Michigan, as the youngest child to loving parents - Allen and Wynona (Tucker) Burgess; and four older brothers and sisters - Jack, Mary, Jim, and Pat. Her father passed away when she was just 22. Forever grateful, Jack helped guide her with “fatherly love,” and Mary helped her see “God’s love and all His glory.” She admired the “inner and outer beauty” of her sister and best friend, Pat. Linda graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1960. While living in Florida, she taught remedial reading at Driftwood Junior High School. She was also a Co-Founder of the Davie Youth Athletic Association, serving on its Board of Directors and coaching cheerleaders. She was always working towards making youth sports available for all children. After Linda moved back home to Michigan, she was elected as a Mt. Morris City Council person, serving a four-year term. She was a member of the Mt. Morris High School Athletic Boosters, as well as Co-Chairperson and Secretary of the Hall of Honor in Mt. Morris. She took her community service seriously and was very dedicated and determined to make her hometown better than it was when she started. She was employed by General Motors as a Budget Analyst. She was also Co-Chairperson for the Old Newsboys Campaign at GM MidLux Car Group until her retirement in 1998. She loved watching her sons and grandchildren play softball and baseball. She was always their loudest and proudest cheerleader. Everyone either called her “Mom” or “Grandma,” which she so loved. She was the best scorekeeper around. For years she never missed a television broadcast of her beloved Detroit Tigers and Michigan Wolverines. She made every holiday very special for her family. We will all miss her famous “brown bread,” no-bake cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, and key lime pie. Linda was happiest spending time with family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren laughing and reminiscing about old times. The loves of her life were her children: two sons - Ken (Sherrie) Radford and Lance Radford; daughter - Julie (Tom) Nichol; three stepdaughters - Dawn (Richard) Farrell, Debra (Paul) Woodridge and Denise (Michael) Brandt; 15 grandchildren - Stephanie, Sean, Sarah, Jeremy, Justin, Jordan, Vanessa, Darik, Philip, Alex, Michael, Melisa, Travis, Katie and Patrick; and her darling 17 great-grandchildren. She also loved her brother-in-law, Jack Martin; many nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend, Ann Robinson. Her loved ones greeting her with open arms are her husband, Don Travis; her parents; her brother, Jack; sister, Mary; nieces, Jill and Melanie; and her precious grandson, Kenny. *If yellow roses grow in heaven, Lord please pick a bunch for us. Please place them in our Mother’s arm and tell her they are from us.*
