DATZ, Kathryn Lucille\ Of Davison and formerly of Vassar, age 90, died Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Alterra Sterling House in Davison. Kathryn was born September 18, 1916 to Louis E. and Retta (OaLeary) Klam in Oregon Twp. near Columbiaville, Michigan. Her family moved to Lapeer and then to Rochester at the age of 8. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1934 and enjoyed a 70th class reunion on August 12, 2004. She moved to Vassar in 1941 and enjoyed employment as a bookkeeper at Dwight Hill Ford Sales. She later became manager of the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed bowling, bridge, poker, and crocheting scrubbers. Katie, as she was known by her family and friends, was so proud to be Irish. And she leaves many with great memories of visits and parties where stories were told and much laughter shared. One highlight was the recent celebration of her 90th birthday at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. She married John Datz on March 8, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. John predeceased her on January 19, 2002. Surviving are a daughter Angela Strawn and husband Richard of Sacramento, CA and a son David and wife Mary Jo Datz of Davison, MI.\ She leaves grandchildren Christopher Strawn and wife Jennifer of Edina, MN;\ Jonathan Strawn and wife Tara of Wheaton, IL; Timothy Strawn of San Diego, CA and Jeremy and Peter Strawn of Sacramento, and one granddaughter Mari Datz of New York City. Surviving are three great grandchildren Molly, Abby, and Haley Strawn. Also surviving is a brother Col (Ret.) and Mrs. Louis B. Klam of Warner Robbins, GA and several nieces, nephews and cousins. \ She was preceded in death by granddaughter Sarah. \ She was a member of the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish in Vassar and had resided at the Alterra Sterling House in Davison from November 8, 2003 to her death on December 21, 2006.\ Mass of the Christian Burial will take place 10:00 am Thursday, December 28, 2006 at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church in Vassar. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar 3-5pm and 6-9pm Wednesday. There will be a Rosary at 7pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. On Thursday morning Katie will be taken to church where friends may call from 9 am until time of service at 10am. \ Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
