“Mema”, age 78, of Flint, died Saturday, April 13, 2019, at home, surrounded by her family. Per Juanita’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held, 5:30 pm Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Dale Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 4:30 pm until time of service at 5:30 pm. Per Juanita’s direction, memorial donations may be directed to the Whaley’s Children’s Center or to Children’s Voices. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Juanita was born December 24, 1940, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emmond and Thelma (Rye) Horton. She worked as a cosmetologist for her entire life. Juanita was known as a caregiver and returned to school to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree, allowing her to care professionally for many people. She loved all of her family, especially her daughter’s and grandchildren, and in addition, she was a foster mom to over 100 beautiful young girls. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, gardening and most of all taking care of others. Juanita leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters: Tera Horton and Vicki Horton; grandchildren: James Horton, Nathon Horton, Katrina Horton and Johnniedawn Horton; eight great-grandchildren, and several special nieces, nephews, foster daughters, and friends.
