John Rohner

March 26, 1924 — July 21, 2014

John R. Rohner, age 90, of Mt. Morris died Monday, July 21, 2014, at McLaren-Flint of Flint, MI. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, July 25, 2014, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Alonzo Vincent will officiate with burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint. John’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to a charity of choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born March 26, 1924, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Herbert and Mary (Cochran) Rohner. He graduated from Flint Central High School, Class of 1942. He married Catherine “Kay” Keenan in 1947; sadly she preceded him in death in 1976. He would later meet Helen (Gingell) Provoast, they were married on March 28, 1981, at Central United Methodist Church in Flint. Sadly she preceded him in death on December 10, 2012. John proudly served in the United States Army during WWII for four years until receiving his honorable discharge. He worked for Standard Flooring in Flint for 30 years until 1970. John would then begin working for Buick 16 years until retiring on June 1, 1986. John was a member of the American Legion Post #158, UAW Local #599, Flint Central High School Alumni Association, and a long time member of the Boy Scouts of America. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching the Detroit Tigers and U of M, bowling and golfing, listening to Big Band music and traveling to Lakeland Florida, the past 20 years to watch the Tigers’ Spring training. Left to cherish his memory, five children; Larry (Diane) Rohner, Richard Rohner, Linda Moreau, Chari Turner and Connie (Larry) LaForest; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil (Alma) Rohner and David (Randee) Rohner; special friends Chuck (Annette) Langevin, and many other family members and friends. John’s family would like to extend a special thank you to John’s sister-in-law Ruth Gingell for all the care she gave. John was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Catherine, second wife Helen, two sisters, Patricia Dulman and Joan Pascuzzo.
