John Mckenney

John "Ed" McKenney, age 92, of Vassar, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2018, in Medilodge of Frankenmuth. In accordance with John's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in Ed's honor at Patsy's home on June 29, 2019, at 12:00 noon. A private burial will be held on July 1, 2019, at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Ed was born in Fairgrove on November 5, 1926, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Alta (Botimer) McKenney. He was married to Ida "Marie" Shaw in Angola, Indiana. Sadly, she preceded him in death on August 31, 2009. Ed proudly served in the United States Army during World War II until receiving his honorable discharge on November 22, 1946, at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. He worked for Grede Foundry in Vassar for many years, retiring in 1970. After retiring, Ed and Marie would own McKenney's Berry Farm, and it could be said that if you tasted a McKenney berry, you tasted the best. When not working, Ed could be found hunting and fishing. He also loved playing cards, especially euchre, and poker. Left to cherish Ed's wishes are his children: John and wife, Susan McKenney, Patsy and husband Dan, Schell; sister, Louise Miller; nine grandchildren: Amy and husband, Bryan McKenney-Huizar, Michael McKenney, Fred and wife, Danielle Welsh, Katie and husband, Bill Cherne, Dr. Patricia and husband, Keith Droz, Joshua McKenney and, Eric Motika; Juliana and husband, Ken Dailey, Bethany and husband, Daniel Wickham, Jordan McKenney; 15 great-grandchildren: Nicole, Kaylynn, Autumn, Matthew, Cody, Aiden, Owen, Genevieve, Juliette, Frederick, Elizabeth, Jude, Piper, Rosie and Eleanor; two great-great-grandchildren: David, and Layla; special friends: the Trevino family, life-long friend, Jeannie Safford; and many other family members and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marie, son Donald, brother Robert, son-in-law Robert Thane, special sister-in-law Mavis Colosky-Streeter.
