John was born in Flint on April 21, 1948, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred and Dolores (McFalda) Aris. John started his career working at General Motors until he was drafted into the United States Army. Specialist Aris proudly served his country from August 7, 1967, until his honorable discharge on August 6, 1970. While enlisted, Specialist Aris earned his National Defense Service Medal, Expert Rifle (M-14), Good Conduct Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). Upon his return to civilian life, John returned to work at General Motors at the Fisher One Plant until it closed in 1987; he then was transferred to Flint Metal Fabricating Plant where he worked for 28 years, until his retirement on February 1, 2000. John also worked as the Lieutenant for the Mt. Morris Twp. Fire Department #1, until his retirement in 1998. John met and married the love of his life, Mary Comstock in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion Post #64 for many years. He was the life of the party and enjoyed a good practical joke. John spent many years hunting in Marquette on his property with his special cousin, Jere McFalda. He also enjoyed camping and spending time on his boat water skiing. John had a passion for working on and fixing up classic cars; and was an amazing bump and paint guy. He took great pride in his 1953 hot rod truck. Spending time with his family was what he most enjoyed, his nieces and nephews called him “dollar man” because he always gave them a dollar when he saw them. He also often gave a dollar to any child he saw, that waved back to him. John was a very helpful, thoughtful, loving man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. John’s family would like to extend many thanks to the Care Team Home Health and to Symphony of Linden Hospice Care for the excellent care they gave him.

Left to cherish John’s memory are his beloved wife, Mary Aris; stepson, Chris Rood; grandson, Jonathan Rood; brother, Gary (Marva) Aris; sisters: Ruth (Rick) Hamel, Darlene Esquivel, Barbara Chambers, Kristy (Wayne) Wilson; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Chad Rood; daughter, Melissa Aris; brother, Wilfred Ted Aris, Jr.
