Joan Vanwormer

Of Vassar, age 90, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, October 24, 2015, at St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church Vassar, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Lorraine’s family will be present to receive friends at St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church Saturday from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Frances X Cabrini Catholic Church, Envelopes are available at the church. Joan was born July 11, 1925, in Bay City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Florence (Sabrourin) LeFevre. Joan graduated from Vassar High School, Class of 1944. She and Norman were united in marriage February 11, 1945, in Reese, Michigan. Sadly, he preceded her in death in 2003. Joan’s husband, Norman owned his own insurance business and she would help from time to time. After Norman’s retirement, they did a lot of traveling and went abroad to visit numerous countries. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren. Joan had a passion for working with children, she volunteered at the Townsend North Elementary School for 15 years. She had a beautiful garden, and always enjoyed her snapdragons. She was a wonderful woman always smiling and friendly to everyone and she will be missed by many. Left to cherish her memory her three daughters; Norma and husband, James Skower, Monica and husband, Mike Conklin, and Connie and husband, Henry Hornung; 12 grandchildren; Renee and husband, Mike Griffin, Lesley and husband, Michael Kornacki, Angie Skower, Erica and husband, Brian Weber, Nicholas and wife, Meg Smith, Steven and wife, Erin Hornung, Brandon wife, Nicole Hornung, and Adam & Amanda Hornung, Andrew and wife, Heather Conklin, Anna Conklin, Heather and husband, Thomas Jenson, Erin and husband, Brian Goodnough; and 21 great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by parents, husband Norman, grandson Ryan Hornung, and three sisters Blanche Ralfalski, Monica Gromek and Terese Malik.
