Jay D. Nitzschke

February 17, 1928 — March 24, 2008

Of Fenton, age 80, died March 24, 2008 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. Jay funeral will take place on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park with military honors to be conducted by the Clio American Legion Post #158. Jay family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00pm until 4:00pm and 6:00pm until 8:00pm and again Friday from 1:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Whaley Children Center.

Jay was born February 17, 1928 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Albert and Maude (Lutes) Nitzschke. Jay served his country during World War II in the USCG-Merchant Marine and five years post war naval reserve.

He married Madolyn Jeane Hinkle, August 11, 1945 in the Mt. Morris Methodist Church. He was a dear and beloved husband, and the dearest father of three children. Jay retired from a lifelong career in the construction industry and enjoyed seeing projects he worked on in Oregon, California and Michigan, especially in the Flint area.

He is survived by his children, Cheryl Avitts of Fenton, Teresa L. Garcia of Millbrae, California and Randy (Susan) Nitzschke of Grand Blanc; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Viola (Russell) Peterson of Arkansas; brother, Charles (Flossie) Nitzschke of Prudenville; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Mae of St. James City, Florida and Doris McFadden of Lupton; special niece, Patricia Cholvin of Palm Desert, California; many nieces and nephews and special lifelong friend Laura Scherrer of Durand.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Madolyn; sisters, Marie Nurmi and Aletha Byrne, and brothers, Doras Nitzschke and Francis Nitzschke.

Jay will be missed sadly missed by his children and will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
