James Stinedurf

January 29, 1939 — September 5, 2016

James (Jim) Vernon Stinedurf, born January 29, 1939 to William Clair Stinedurf and Mildred Amelia Born of Ypsilanti, MI, passed from this earth while at his home in Burton, MI on Monday, September 5, 2016 at the age of 77 and was welcomed into the presence of his Creator, Lord, and Master whom he served for the greater part of his life. Today he enjoys that reward that is being “absent from the body, and…present with the Lord.” At age 13 he placed his soul in God’s care and committed his life to “full-time” service a few years later. In 1964 he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Bible from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. On January 23, 1965 he exchanged marriage vows with the love of his life, Janet Lee Montague, the daughter of Paul Harry Montague and Margaret Jeanette Gamble of Clio, MI. In February of 1966, Jim and his new bride left Michigan to make their home in Puerto Rico for a lifetime of service to God, and for God. The goals being first, to proclaim the good news of God’s perfect sacrifice for man’s sin, Jesus; dead, buried, and risen; and second, to see in their lifetime the establishment of Bible-believing churches in each of Puerto Rico’s towns and cities. During his years on the island he loved with the people he loved, Jim, along with Janet, reared 3 sons and 2 daughters, saw many souls saved, lives drastically changed, and churches established. After 44 rich and fruitful years, Jim and Janet returned to Michigan to aid in the care of Janet’s ailing mother. He is preceded by his parents William and Mildred, parents-in-law Paul and Margaret, and sister Dorothy Stinedurf, along with many who trusted in Christ through his witness in Puerto Rico. He is survived by his wife Janet; children (and spouses) Joel David and Tamoura Stinedurf, Paul Montague and Rachel Stinedurf, Michelle Kathleen and Timothy Williams, Rebecca Joy and Brent Maloney, and James Vernon (Jr.) and Lydia Stinedurf; siblings (and spouses) Juanita and William Hamel, Donald and Sally Stinedurf, Shirley and Gary Hawks, and William and Judy Stinedurf; 15 grandchildren and a vast extended family, most of whom share the hope of what today is Jim’s reality. Funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Faith Baptist Church in Davison, Michigan. Pastor John Lewis will be officiating. Family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Friday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Saturday morning, James will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Baptist Mid-Mission PO Box 308011, Cleveland, OH 44130-8011. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
