Of Mt. Morris, age 82, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 1:00pm, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at St. Mary Catholic Church of Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park, with graveside Military Honors, conducted by the American Legion Post #158, of Clio. Family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, 11:00am to 2:00pm, and 4:00pm to 8:00pm. On Friday evening, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm. Following the Rosary, a Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Memorial Service will take place conducted by the K of C Holy Family Council # 4285, following that a 4th Degree Chalice Ceremony will be held by the Leon J. Satkowiak 4th Degree Assembly #0524. On Saturday, family will gather at the funeral home at 12:35 for prayers, followed by a procession to church for Funeral Mass at 1:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. James was born July 3, 1927 in Kingsford, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore and Gladys (Neuville) Smith. He and Dolores were united in marriage July 2, 1949. Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army, during World War II, in Italy. He was employed as a fireman at Buick for over 40 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of UAW #599, St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Council #4285, and the American Legion. Jim leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Dolores, son, Robert and wife Mary Smith, two daughters, Yvonne and husband William Harris, and Connie Smith, five grandchildren, Rebecca Farhat, Bryon and wife Jennifer Harris, Corie and husband Paul McGinnis, Kevin Smith, and Mary Ann and husband John Martin, six great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Brendan, Emalie, Kayla, Nicholas, and Selena, and one great-great granddaughter, Payton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard Smith, son-in-law, John C. Smith, and great-granddaughter, Madison Harris.
