Jim was born in 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, to Mr. and Mrs. Charles and June Miller. In the 1940s, Jim moved with his family to the Flint area, where he resided until his death. In 1955, he married his beloved wife, Joyce Groulx. Together they raised six children. Jim loved sports, especially golf and his annual summer golf league. He spent many an afternoon on the golf course, perfecting his game, and golfed until his final illness prevented him. Jim spent his free time watching various sports games live and on TV. He rarely missed his children’s sporting events, be it baseball, swimming, wrestling, bowling, or even cheerleading and as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren carried on the Miller sports tradition, he took great pride in watching them participate too. He loved watching Michigan’s pro and college sports teams, and it was rare to enter his home and not find the Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, or Pistons on his TV. Jim coached youth bowling for many years and coached the Powers Catholic High School girls’ varsity bowling team for many years, where he had a positive impact on what he called his “adopted daughters’ lives. Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to everyone. The Miller family would like to thank the family of Larry and Delia Shkreli, who made Jim a part of their family for many years, and to the people at Compassus Hospice for their loving care and support during his final days.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory are his sons: Michael (Jenny), Dennis (Theresa); daughters: Jamie (Rob) Saiko, Kathleen, Jeanmarie, and Sandra (Kenneth) Chappell; ten grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; sister Sandra (Albert) Olah; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce, and parents, Charles and June.
