Age 92, of Mt. Morris, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. In accordance with James' wishes, cremation has taken place. James will be buried at Great Lakes National Cemetery in the summer of 2025. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on James' tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.

James was born October 11, 1931, in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Helen (York) Larkin. James heeded the call to serve his country and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the USS Compton from July 18, 1950, until his honorable discharge on June 23, 1954, where he also served side by side with his brother, Richard Larkin. While overseas, James earned his Good Conduct Medal, and Navy Occupation National Defense Service Medal. Upon his return to the States, Seaman Larkin went on to work in an amazing skill that very few people had. He became a Neon Sign Glass Bender at the age of 16 and went on to work for himself until his retirement. He met and married the love of his life, Sara Reed, and the two were united in marriage on August 18, 1956. Sadly, she preceded him in death on October 22, 2012. James was a proud member of the American Legion Post #158 and the Birch Run Moose Lodge # 2426. James was an amazing man who loved his family more than anything and will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish James' memory are his children: Stacie and husband, Jon Moody and Stephanie and husband, Mark Bielby.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sara Larkin; son, James Larkin, II; and several other family members and friends.
