Age 71, of Fairgrove, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2015, at home. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday December 11, 2015 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Fairgrove with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and, again, on Friday morning from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Caro or a charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Jim was born in Bay City, Michigan to Henry G. and Eva (Weber) Spannagel on February 2, 1944. He graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School in 1962. After high school, Jim went on to become a journeyman Millwright with General Motors at the Grey Iron Plant in Saginaw, Michigan. Jim served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. Jim and Ann E. Walker were united in marriage on July 27, 1968 while he was stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana. Jim later retired from General Motors after 33 years of service. Jim was a member of the UAW and the VFW. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jim was always finding something to work on or fix up. He will be dearly missed. Jim is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann Spannagel; daughter Jennifer and husband William Heida; two grandchildren Gabrielle and Tyler Heida; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
