Age 81, of Flint, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at the Miles Martin Funeral Home. Military Honors will take place on Monday evening at 6:00pm at the funeral home, conducted by the American Legion Post #158 of Clio. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. James will be laid to rest at Flint Memorial Park. James was born April 20, 1928 in Flint, Michigan. He attended Northern High School where he graduated. He served in the US Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. James lived in Flint for most of his life. He retired in 1980, and moved to St. Helen, Michigan. He spent the last three and a half years living in Clio, Michigan at Roxbury Court Senior Living. He worked at Buick until his retirement and was a member of Buick Local #599. He loved the outdoors, walking in the woods, hunting and fishing. James shared many trips with friends traveling out west to hunt. He loved going to Las Vegas and going to the race track. He was an avid bowler and won several championships. He never missed a game of his favorite team, the Tigers, win or lose. He is survived by daughters; Paulette (John) Carpenter of Davison, Roxanne (Doug) Miller of Flushing, Peggy Norton of Flint and Tammy Durham of Davison. He also leaves behind three grandchildren; John Carpenter of Grand Blanc, James Norton and Nicole Sprague, both of Flint, his cherished sister, Joanne (Leon) Bolen, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his best friend of many years, Jack Houten. James was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Lillian Durham, sister, Verna OAaaRoark, and his beloved grandson, Ryan Carpenter, most recently.
