Jack Gearhart

November 6, 1921 — August 23, 2012

Of Mt. Morris, age 90, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Heartland Health Care Center in Ann Arbor. Cremation will take place followed by burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery at a later date with graveside Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #158 of Clio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of one's choice. Jack was born November 6, 1921 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kimber and Ruth (Lyman) Gearhart. He and Olive McKee Goulding were united in marriage November 30, 1946. Jack worked at Sears for over 38 years, 31 years as manager of the cosmetics department and another 7 as manager of the furniture department. He proudly served his country with the US Army during WWII serving as a medic in the 42nd field hospital, and was a prisoner of war. Jack received 5 Bronze Stars and was a member of the American Legion Post #342. In his free time he enjoyed making candles, woodworking, golfing, fishing, hunting, and gunsmithing. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Olive; four children, Lynne Gearhart and friend Ruth Christian, Craig and wife Julie Gearhart, Allan Gearhart, and Bradley Gearhart; three grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, and Courtney Gearhart; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Allison Eaton.
