Age 79 of Fairgrove died Tuesday, March 23, 2021, peacefully at home. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 26, 2021, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Vassar. Pastor Brad Speirs officiating. Helen’s family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 26, 2021, and again from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Fairgrove District Library or the Fairgrove Fire Department. Expressions of sympathy may be shared on Helen’s tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com. Helen was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 28, 1942, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony and Madeline (Martin) Jacobs. Helen was raised and educated in Bay City, graduating from Visitation Catholic School with the Class of 1958. Helen met a young man, Jesus Ruiz. The two dated, fell in love and were united in marriage on August 18, 1962, at Visitation Catholic Church. Together their union was blessed with eight children. Helen was a homemaker while raising their children. They loved to go camping all over the country in their motorhome, taking trips as often as they could. Helen enjoyed bowling and was the president of the bowling association. She was known for her cake-making skills, designing and decorating 3D cakes for weddings, birthdays, and other events. Helen was kind-hearted, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; who truly loved her family. Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her children: Kevin and, wife Susan Ruiz, Steven Ruiz, Michael Ruiz, and Joann Morell, John and wife, Cathy Ruiz, Shellie Ruiz and husband, Justin Hoyte, Marilyn Ruiz, Jennifer Ruiz; grandchildren: Gabriel, Nathinal, Andrew, Kyle, Tara, Haley, and Tanner; great-grandchildren: Marissa, Britney, Logan, Christian, Peyton, Lillianna, Tessa; brother: Bing Jacobs; many nieces, nephews, close family friends: the Montei families, and the Fred Ahrens families, and many other friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband: Jesus; daughter: Kathy and husband, Gary Freeman.
