Harvey Bruder

Of Vassar, age 91, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Cartwright Care Center. Harvey was born September 25, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Ella (Haman) Bruder. He and Ruth Lorf were united in marriage April 14, 1941 in Richmond. He was part owner and general manager of United Plastics in Vassar, retiring in 1985. He was an active member at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar, where he served as an Elder and held many church offices. Harvey leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ruth, two daughters, Sharon and husband Donald Thurston, Carolyn and husband Robert Schnell, seven grandchildren, Nancy and husband Luke Bierlein, Katherine and husband Mark Burkitt, Daniel and wife Ann Thurston, Cindy and husband Kevin Taylor, Julie and husband Joe Coffey, Kristie and husband Paul Forgue, and Dennis Thurston, 13 great grandchildren, sister Dorothy Hahn, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Floyd, and sister Deloris Andreychuk. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Vassar. Pastor James Plocher will officiate with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Friday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm. On Saturday morning, Harvey will be taken to church where he will lie in state from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am.Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke's Lutheran Church or Cartwright Care Center. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
