Age 75, of Mt. Morris, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at Cranberry Park in Clio, with his family by his side. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, October 14, 2019, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. Pastor Kevin Dixson to officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Harold's family will be present at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, to receive visitors on Sunday, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Harold will be taken to church to lie in state on Monday morning, from 9:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association; donations can be made directly from Harold's Tribute Wall at martinfuneralhome.com. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home and church. Harold was born in Flint, on January 20, 1944, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herb and Leah (Donigan) West. Harold graduated from Mt. Morris High School with the class of 1962. Shortly after high school, Harold would heed the call of duty and proudly served in the National Guard for four years, until receiving his honorable discharge. Harold married the love of his life, Shirley Gibson, on July 13, 1974, in Wixom, Michigan. Sadly, she preceded him in death on February 2, 2012. He was part owner of West & Sons Excavating in Mt. Morris, from 1970 until 1976. In his free time, he could also be found driving a bus for Michigan Trailways, Blue Lakes Charter & Tours as well as the Mt. Morris School District. He was also a car hauler for General Motors for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Harold was a long-time member of Teamsters Local #332 as well as the First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. Harold was also an active member of the Boy Scouts Troop 101. Harold was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather; he was also dedicated to the Lord and volunteered his time in many capacities as an usher at church, trustee chairman, and voter poll worker. Harold also loved spending time with his grandchildren, and his dog, Bear, and eating breakfast at Bob Evans. Left to cherish his memory are his two sons: Gary and wife, Shawn West, and Daniel and wife, Lauren West; six grandchildren: Kaitlynn, Caleb, Makayla, Briellen, Maci, and Gibson; sister-in-law, Penny West; brother, Bob and wife, Inez West; special friends: Keith and wife, Wava Valliere; and many other family members and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; brothers: Herbert "Dar," Merle, and Gary.
