Gordon Walters

Age 81, of Mt. Morris, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 19, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Reverend Father Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Gordon’s family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tributes Services-Mt. Morris, on Friday, November 18, 2016, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a Moose Lodge service at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, Gordon will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00. Memorial contributions can be directed to Maple Woods Manor. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Gordon was born November 24, 1934, in West Branch, Michigan, to Mr. & Mrs. Howard and Alma (Brick) Walters. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Beecher High School, from there he served in the United States Army. He and Muriel Jensen Newman were united in marriage on May, 19, 1979, in Flint, Michigan. Gordon worked for Buick as a general foreman. He retired in 1987. Gordon belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, Flushing Moose Lodge #1437 and American Legion. He loved to spend time outside doing yard work and gardening. Gordon liked to hunt, play golf and softball. He will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Muriel Walters; two children: Angie Nichols, Lori (Doug) Muxlow; seven stepchildren: James (Leanne) Newman, Denise (Dean) Spencer, Michele (Randy) Church, Steve (Julie) Newman, Janine (George) Draheim, Cyndi (Jim) Mills, Ronald Counterman; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother: Howard Walters; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, first wife: Georgiana Walters; son: Stephen Walters, three brothers: Dallas, Francis and Ronald Walters; sister: Phyllis Linder; grandchildren: Brittney Muntin, Stephen Walters; and great-grandchild: Evelynne Aimee.
