Gordon was born in Flint on June 19, 1937, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herald and June (Thompson) Schultz. Educated locally, he attended Mt. Morris High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. After graduation, he attended GMI and then went on to work for AC Spark Plug as the Electrical Foreman. Gordon would leave GM in 1964 to become the co-owner of Lucille Allen Dress Shop in Mt. Morris, retiring from there in 1999. Gordon met the love of his life, Mary Jo Allen, and the two were united in marriage on June 30, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris. During his high school years, Gordon was an all-around athlete. He and his friends all gathered at the Hart’s Pond, where they would often play hockey and skate. Gordon played hockey for the Raincheck Hawks Hockey Team in Flint for many years. Their team was the Flint Senior Hockey Champions for 12 years. Gordon was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts and Father Flannigan’s Boys Town in Nebraska. Gordon was an avid hunter and was the co-founder with John Roberts and Wally Reimer at the 7/40 Hunting Club in Hale. He was also the co-owner of Stack, Stock & Lock, and purchased the grain elevator in Mt. Morris to keep it from closing. Gordon was never one to sit still, and he was one of seven men over the age of 65, who built a bridge connecting the two sides of Cedar Lake in Oscoda in the summer of 2004 and built a condo development facility in Oscoda. He was a second-year member of the Clio Country Club for 32 years. Gordon was the President of the Chamber of Commerce and the Junior Chamber in Mt. Morris as well as an inductee in the Hall of Honor. He was also a lifelong member of the Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge #535. After his retirement, Gordon relocated to Palmetto, Florida, for 22 years, starting as a snowbird for 17 of those, and then the last five, they lived there all year round, until moving back to Michigan this last December to be with family and friends. He was a member of the Family of God United Methodist Church in Palmetto, Fl. He loved his family dearly and was known as the Pied Piper, as he loved all the kids. Not only did he love his children, his service dog, Emily, was the joy of his life. She went everywhere with him. He especially loved to take her out on the golf cart, where she proudly sat next to him. He will be greatly missed.
