Age 78, of Houghton Lake Heights, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Frankenmuth with Father Bob Byrne to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gerald’s memory to Spring Hill Camps in Evart or to a charity of your choice. Mr. Ferweda was born June 18, 1937 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota to the late Gordon and Dorothy (Homer) Ferweda. He and Janice Morgan were united in marriage on January 19, 1959. Gerald was raised on his family’s farm in Lake Station, Michigan and was a beloved husband and father. He was a member of St. Hurberts Catholic Church in Higgins Lake since 2008 and Blessed Trinity Catholic Church since 2004. Gerald was a Volunteer Firefighter in Clio as Battalion Chief for 34 years, Building Inspector for Thetford Township for 8 years, and was President of the Wellington Tuggers Club. Gerald enjoyed tractor pulling, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and was also a NASCAR enthusiast. Left to cherish Gerald’s memory are his wife, Janice Ferweda; four children: Jackie and husband, Jim Hatfield, Patrick and wife, Karri Ferweda, and Jeffery and wife, Sarrah Ferweda; 11 Grandchildren: Shane, Ammanda, Austin, Brian, Katlyn, Jason, Bridget, Morgan, Evan, Jack, and Paige; mother, Virginia Weatherwax; four siblings: Esther and husband, Earl Pettenger, Gordon and wife, Marylyn Ferweda, Eugene and wife, Janet Williams, and John and wife, Lorna Morgan, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Gerry Ferweda Jr., grandson, John Ferweda, and two sisters: Laura Miller, and Evelyn Daniel. Gerald’s family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who supported them during the last few months.
