George Scherman

Age 97, of Mt. Morris, died Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Gulfside Center for Hospice Care in Zephyrhills, Florida. A memorial service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church located at 6205 23rd St, Zephyrhills, Florida. George was born July 27, 1918, in Flint, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John and Mary (Fischer) Scherman. George served in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1945. He worked for General Motors A.C Spark Plug Division as a Job Setter before retiring. He was a previous member of the VFW, American Legion, UAW Local 651, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels and several camping organizations. In his free time, he enjoyed, fishing, camping, making wooden birds, spending time with his family and friends and he enjoyed a good golf game, which he played until the age of 95. Left to cherish his memory are: wife, Alvina Scherman; children, Barbara and husband, Bill Vincent, Ellen and husband, Robert Fisher, Delores and husband, Val Nowak, Allen and wife, April Bartz and Dean and wife, Tammy Bartz; son-in-law, Greg Hartz; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Donna Hartz, brother, John and first wife, Eileen.
