Age 65, of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau to officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14, 2016, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services-Mt. Morris. George will lie in state on Wednesday, from 10:00 am until time of Mass at 11:00 am. Family, friends and parish will gather Tuesday at 6:00 pm to pray the Rosary followed by K of C memorial service conducted by the Knights of Columbus Council, Holy Family Council #4285. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to the American Lung Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and at the church. Mr. Gilliam was born January 18, 1951, in New Madrid County, Missouri to the late Mr. & Mrs. George, Sr. and Loretta (Miley) Gilliam. George owned Shamrock Fabricating, which his family started. He enjoyed shooting skeet and was extremely active in the Genesee Gun Club, and is a past President of the Genesee Sportsman’s Club. He loved passing his knowledge of shooting skeet to the youth at the Genesee Gun Club, and enjoyed coaching in the Flint Olympian Games and CANUSA Games. In George’s younger years, he liked to race motocross. George was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council, Holy Family Council #4285. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lynn (Onore) Gilliam; four children: George Gilliam III, John and wife, Carrie Gilliam, Tom and wife, Janet Gilliam, and Steve Onore; three grandchildren: John Gilliam, Robert Gilliam, and Corina Peterson; two great-grandchildren; four brothers: Larry, David, Tim, and Donny; and sister, Tina. George was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Susan (Crump) Gilliam; brother, Leonard; and sister, Nita.
