Gary B. Lasceski, age 67, of Juniata Township, died Monday, October 23, 2017, at Medi Lodge of Frankenmuth after an extended illness. A funeral service will take place at Vassar High School Auditorium, on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at 11:00 am. Pastor Chad Minkler will officiate with burial to follow in Juniata Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar, on Friday, October 27, 2017, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Saturday morning, Gary will be taken to Vassar High School to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Vassar Athletic Association or Charis New Testament Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and school. Gary was born March 3, 1950, in Filion, Michigan to Mr. & Mrs. Michael and Regina (Schramski) Lasceski. He graduated from Bad Axe High School. Gary and Cheryl Krueger were united in marriage on November 25, 1972, in Harbor Beach, Michigan. Gary received his Master’s Degree in Social Studies and Minor in English from SVSU. He began his teaching career for three years at Visitation Catholic School in Bay City. He then was hired at Vassar High School where he taught for 37 years before he retired. While at Vassar High School he coached the Jr. High girls and boys track and basketball and was the adviser for their Youth inGovernment Program. Gary was a country boy at heart and loved gardening, beekeeping, fishing and raising animals. He had a passion for God and his family. He will be deeply missed by many family, friends and students. Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Cheryl Lasceski; two children: Jennifer (Jay) Hegemann and Joshua Lasceski; 3 grandchildren: Beau, Blake and Brandon Hegemann; three sisters and two brothers: Janice Holz, Dolores Vigenski, Dorothy (Carl) Learman, Michael (Diane) Lasceski and Dennis (Elaine) Lasceski. Gary was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospital in Saginaw and Medi Lodge of Frankenmuth for their care and support, especially to Kayla and Jesse at Medi Lodge.
