Frederick “Fred” Martin Haley, Age 77, of Clio, Michigan, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at 11:00 am, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services of Mt. Morris. Deacon Jim Brown will officiate with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A rosary will take place Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm. Fred was born in Sault Ste. Marie to Martin and Bertha Haley on December 29, 1939. He was happy-go-lucky as a child and into his teenage years, and known by his family as “the singer.” Fred graduated Sault High in 1958. He married Janet Husocki on September 26, 1964, in Flint. They purchased their home in 1968, raised four children, and have been there for 48 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mt. Morris. After graduation, his dad advised him to leave the U.P. because there were more opportunities in the Flint area. Fred moved and found employment at Kroger. After seven years, Fred took a position at Fisher Body (GM) from 1964-1968. He left the shop due to an on-the-job knee injury. Fred then returned to Kroger, working there about 20 years before retiring on disability. Fred was handy and built many things over the years: a garage with his dad, a barn, and later, an addition to the house. Fred enjoyed time with his family playing cards or games, being outside, and taking camping trips to Mackinac and Cedar Point. Fred’s hobbies included feeding the birds and gardening. He proudly shared the bounty of vegetables with others. Fred was a dog-lover and a skilled euchre player. He loved listening to music on the radio and his old country records. He liked watching sports, especially Detroit Red Wings hockey and Notre Dame football. Fred enjoyed chatting with neighbors and having coffee with friends. He always lent a helping hand whenever he could. Fred found the most joy taking trips up to the Soo with his brother, Mike, and visiting places where they grew up. He took his children on many occasions and enjoyed showing them around, watching freighters in the Soo Locks, having beer, and getting burgers at Clyde’s. Fred is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Janet of 52 years, Kevin (Stephanie) Haley, Melissa (Andrew) Bisaha, Laura (Philip) Foutch, and Kristina (David) Norton; his sister Marlene (Francis) Limmer, twin brother Patrick (Cindy) Haley, youngest brother Thomas Michael Haley; five grandchildren: Ethan and Emma Haley; Micaela, Alexander and Zachary Foutch; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends and neighbors: Don Bemis, Denny Crispell; Keeler, Leineke, and Peltonen families.
