Of Mt. Morris, age 83, died Saturday, September 12, 2009 at his sonAaas home in Cape Coral, Florida. The funeral service will take place 10:00am, Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor David Burkett will officiate with military honors and burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, September 25, 2009 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held at 7:00pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Charity of Choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Elmer was born September 29, 1925 in Paradise Township, Illinois the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer and Pearl (Murphy) Wheeler. He and Maxine V. Decker were united in marriage April 1, 1946. He was a WWII Marine with combat action seen in New Guinea, Saipan, Iwo Jima, and Tinian Islands and is a life member of the DAV as he was wounded in Saipan. Elmer is a Past Master and Chaplin Emmeritis of Mt. Morris Masonic Lodge #535. He retired from the CSX Railroad. Elmer was faithful, a good husband, father, friend, and mentor. Elmer leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Judy C. Wheeler of Lame Deer, Montana, daughter Suzanne and husband, Bill Dimitrakas of Painesville, Ohio, and son, James and wife, Twyla Wheeler of Cape Coral, Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 61 years, Maxine V. Wheeler; son, Mark C. Wheeler; brother Max Wheeler of Mattoon, Illinois; sisters, Wanda Ramsey and Betty Romack of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
