Edward Martin

Age 77, of Vassar died at the home of his daughter Paula's on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am, Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Pastor Larry Fouts will officiate with burial to follow in Blumfield Township Cemetery. Edward's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Monday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Edward was born January 3, 1937, in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William V. and Delores (Adams) Martin. He was educated locally in Vassar. He married Shirley Stedry on August 22, 1959, in Vassar, Michigan. Sadly she preceded him in death February 8, 1999. Edward worked as a heavy machine operator for Great Lakes Mineral 37 years until his retirement in 1993. He farmed, raised cattle, hunted, loved his gardening and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his crowd at Betty Lou's restaurant. His family was special to him and he enjoyed their time together especially the time spent with his great grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Paula (Michael) Yax, Albert Martin, and Alberta Metro; grandchildren; Michelle (Rob) Krueger, Michael (Jenna) Yax and Liberty Rhodes; great-grandchildren Savanna Krueger, Robert Krueger, Madison Krueger, Jozelyn Yax, Jillian Yax, Samantha Krueger and Tabatha Krueger; sisters Emma Jean Hill, Gerry (Don) Springsteen, Mary (Roger) Starking and brother Wesley (Wanda) Martin. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, brothers Albert, Julius, Lawrence, and Morris and sisters Rosa, Isabelle, Ella Mae, and Marjorie.
