Of Mt. Morris, age 91, died Thursday, November 3, 2011, at Grand Blanc Rehabilitation Care Facility. The funeral service will take place 5:00 pm, Monday, November 7, 2011, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor David Burkett will officiate with cremation to follow. Ed's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 noon until time of service at 5:00 pm. Ed was born June 9, 1920, in Mt Morris, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvie and Marie (Stevens) Long. He retired from Automobile Carriers in 1977. In his early years, Ed was well-known in the Flint area sports community as being one of the Flint City Baseball League's premier pitchers and a Golden GLoves Boxer. One of the highlights of his life came on June 17, 1945, when he was the starting pitcher for the Flint All- Stars in an exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers. Ed loved the game of baseball, and remained a life-long Detroit Tiger Fan. Left to cherish his memory are: six children, Kay (Ed) Daniel, Janet Brant, Edward (Diana), Jr., Susan, Tom and Jack (Donna); five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Mary) and Richard (Diana) Long; one sister, Maxine Bonno; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ed enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, and watching his grandsons play baseball, and bowling. He is preceded in death by: son, Danny; grandson, Chad Daniel; parents; sister, Marjorie Hasselblad; six brothers, James, Louis, Robert, Harold, Alva, Jr. and George; stepson, John Elford.
