Of Grand Ledge, age 98, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 15, 2017, at his home, surrounded by family. Funeral Mass will take place 11:00 am Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Vassar. Father Richard Jozwiak will officiate with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Compassus Hospice 801 S. Waverly, Lansing, MI 48917, Vassar Historical Society or St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the church. Eber was born October 1, 1918, in Vassar, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Mary (Ledsworth) Barnes. He and Claudia Piazza were united in marriage on June 17, 1944, in Reese, Michigan. Eber was a member of the Vassar Eagle Aerie 2380, Richville American Legion, Vassar Historical Society, and St. Frances – Knights of Columbus. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was an incredible story teller and was known for his wit and sense of humor. He loved to make things from wood and tend his garden. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Nancy Moser, Marie (Tim) Konieczny, and James (Denise) Barnes; grandchildren: Jeff (Nyann), Kim (Tony), Randy (Sarah), Matt, Amy (Kevin), Claudia, Allison (Andy) and Tom (Vi); eleven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Claudia, son-in-law, George Moser, five sisters, and one brother.
