Duane Hammond

Duane Brady Hammond, age 89, of Clio, passed away on April 19, 2019, after a long battle with leukemia. He was able to spend all but a short time at home before his passing with the help of his friends and family. The family would like to thank the Karmanos Cancer Center, Dr. Singh and his staff, the McLaren Flint 8th Floor-South nurses and staff and the Gross Assisted Living team for all of their support in caring for Duane in his time of need. Duane was born on October 7, 1929, at the family farm in Clio to the late Roy and Mildred (Brady) Hammond. He grew up and lived his entire life on the Thetford Township farm. Duane married Marion Grenier on March 19, 1949, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at home. Besides being a farmer his whole life, Duane worked at many other jobs as well. Some of the things he did included working at the old Buick Retail store in Flint, a mechanic at Fred Jones Ford sales in Clio and working on the assembly line at Buick in Flint. He was also a member of the Mt. Morris School Board for 4 years. He received many honors for his work of 20 years as a Trustee and later Treasurer for Thetford Township. A lifelong member of the Michigan Farm Bureau, he served 6 years on the Board of Directors for the Genesee County Farm Bureau. Duane enjoyed camping, hunting, traveling, Detroit Tiger baseball, trips to the casinos and spending time with his many friends and family. Surviving are his wife Marion; son, Larry (Jane) Hammond; daughter, Betsy (Mike) Sherman; grandsons: Jason Hammond, Joel (Ariel) Hammond, Ryan Sherman; great-grandchildren: Brady and Ella Hammond. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Duane’s family will be present at the funeral home to receive guests on Monday, from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm; and on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am.
