Age 75, of Vassar, died Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at Cartwright Hospice Residence in Saginaw. Per the family's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service in Douglas’ honor will take place 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Hope Community Church, 511 North Main St., Frankenmuth. Douglas was born October 27, 1942, in Line Lexington, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Matthew and Lizzy Mae (Freed) Smith. Douglas married the love of his life, Gladys Godshall, in 1963. He was a truck driver for North Penn Transfer company for 16 years. Upon moving to Fairview, Michigan, he worked for Hoskins Industries until retiring in 1983 due to a disability. In his free time, Douglas enjoyed reading, riding his bike, being in the outdoors, loved airplanes, singing in church and for weddings. Left to cherish his memory, wife: Gladys Smith; children: Wade, and wife Jennifer Smith; Brad, and wife Joanne Smith; Karen Slasinski; grandchildren: Jessica, and husband Victor Guarino; Elizabeth Smith, and fiance Dale Miller; Zachary Smith; Ezekiel Smith; Malachi Smith; Courtney Smith; Matthias Smith; Nicholas Smith; Kailyn Smith; Gabriel Smith; Noah Slasinski,; Elijah Slasinski; Micah Slasinski; Siblings: brothers--Marvin Smith of Silverdale, PA; Marple Smith, of Fairview, MI; Dave Smith, of Silverdale, PA; and sister, Ruth Ann Sigler of Bechtelsville, PA; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with siblings--3 infants, as well as sisters Dorothy Newby, Lois Hunsberger, Grace Tate and brother, Bob Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Doug's memory to Hope Community Church.
