Of Fairgrove Township, age 88, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at her home. Dorothy was born February 3, 1925, in Unionville, Michigan, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Mollie (Spangler) Holzwart. She and Jack "Sid" McAlpine were united in marriage January 12, 1945, in Unionville. Dorothy and her husband, Jack owned and operated McAlpine Insurance for many years, until their retirement. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove since 1949. Dorothy was also active on the Tuscola County HDC Board, Fairgrove Medical Board, Michigan Bean Festival Committee, Watrousville Historical Society, Caro Senior Citizens and Tuscola County Red Hatters. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, cermamics, traveling and spending time with her family. Left to cherish her memory are six children, Dr. Barry and wife, Kim, Dr. Fred and wife, Linda, Ed and wife, Lil, Karen and husband, Joe Kata, Gloria McAlpine, and Dr. Jack; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Vida and husband, Lawrence Ewald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; son-in-law, Bob Fry Sr., two grandsons, Bob Fry Jr., and Mike Stephens; five sisters, Adeline Butler, Florence Heinitz, Ardella Berg, Doris Fritz, and Dorlis Nutt; and one brother, William Holzwart. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove. Rev. Leonard A. Astrowski, Jr. will officiate with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Dorothy will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grace Lutheran Church Bell Tower, Grace Lutheran Church Communion Ware or Grace Lutheran Church Banner Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
