Dorothy was born in Caro, Michigan, on November 9, 1938, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William W. and Amy Griffin. Educated locally, Dorothy graduated from Mt. Morris High School, with the Class of 1956. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Dr. Tommy Lindsey on March 31, 1956, in North Carolina. Upon returning to Michigan, Dorothy would become a clerk and road test instructor for the Secretary of State in Mt. Morris. It was well known throughout the Mt. Morris community that Dorothy's wish was to have a community of safe drivers. She would not just pass anyone on their road test, not only did you have to do well on the road test, you also had to be polite as well. Her passion for the Mt. Morris community did not stop at the Secretary of State, Dorothy was involved in the community in many capacities. She was a former board member of the Mt. Morris City Counsel, Mt. Morris Beautification, and Optimus. Dorothy also helped organize Dancing in the Streets, Mt. Morris Christmas Parades, and the Mt. Morris 5K Color Runs for years. In April of 2022, Dorothy was awarded the Key to the City for her life-time community achievements. She also went door to door organizing and building the Mt. Morris Chamber of Commerce. In her free time, she loved spending time with her family and friends, riding horses, and doing ceramics.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children: William "Bill" Lindsey, Dr. Tom and wife, Jeri Ann Lindsey, Amy Lynn and husband, John Akridge, and Ellen Kay and husband, Edward O'Neil; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Beth and husband, Norm Tate; and many family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Webber and Amy (Thomas) Griffin; husband, Dr. Tommy Grayson Lindsey; sister, Helen Arneson; brother, Bill Griffin; sister-in-law, Charlotte Kutcher; and mother and father in-law, Ellen and Grayson Harlan.
