In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s School in Mt. Morris or Powers Catholic High School in Flint. Envelopes are available at the funeral home, and church. Doris was born July 7, 1935, in Royal Oak, Michigan, the third daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Conrad and Frances (Wittbrodt) Schaffer’s 14 children. Educated locally, she attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mt. Morris with the Class of 1953. From there, Doris would continue her education at Marygrove College in Detroit. Her career path would lead her to GM, where she worked at AC Spark Plug for over 30 years as a parts inspector, prior to her retirement in 1986. She was also a member of UAW Local #651. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s in Mt. Morris, where she dedicated her time as the piano and choir director for over 50 years, taught music at the school, and was a member of the Altar Society. Doris was also a member of the AC Choir. She was an avid bowler, and a huge sports fan: especially for her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and “her” Detroit teams. Above all, she was dedicated to and loved being with her family. Left to cherish her memory are: her three daughters: Lori and husband, Michael Wiskur, Terri Gilbert, and Jean and husband, Phillip Nobach; eight grandchildren: Ashley and husband, Kirk, Lindsay, Candace, Ethan, Bret, Matthew, Leighanna and Lexis; two great-grandsons: Noah and Liam; three sisters: Shirley Livingston, Mary Rutter and Sister Arlene (Bernie), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers: William, Thomas, James, Richard, John, Donald, and Conrad, Jr., four sisters: Virginia, Marilyn, Patricia and Jo Ann. The family would like to extend a special thank you to: Dr. I. Bhatti, Dr. E. Raj, Dr. C. Szyarto, Dr. N. Landesman and Reverence Hospice, especially Dan and Marge, for all of the care and compassion shown to Doris. It is greatly appreciated.
