Doris was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on November 15, 1946, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey and Allie Marie (Mason) Smith. Educated locally, Doris was a member of Clio High School Class of 1965. She met and married the love of her life, Claude Brown, on August 11, 1978. Sadly, he preceded her in death on September 26, 2002. Doris was a devoted caregiver her whole life and loved to tend to and care for anyone who entered her life. She took care of all her grandkids, and many nieces and nephews. Any child that needed a place to stay, always knew they could count on her to give them shelter and love. Not only did she love children of the human kind, but she also adored her dogs: Tippy, Precious, Amber, Jenny, and Tiffany. Doris was raised in the Baptist Church and held strong to her faith. She lived most of her life in Clio until she moved to Florida in 2002. Doris enjoyed traveling and visited many places, including South Carolina, Arkansas, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Hawaii, and the Bahamas. She loved sitting at the beach, listening to the waves, and enjoying the sunsets. In her free time, she liked gardening, reading books, and spending time with family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish Doris' memory are her children: Tracy and husband, John Aikin, Kim Shaw, Kerri and husband, Wayne Priess; step-children: Jimmy and wife, Sharon Brown, Shelly and husband, Dale Brachel, Cheri and husband, Tony Haymon, Tessy and husband, Harry Hunt; grandchildren: Nichole Shaw, Dustin Shaw, Heather Collins, Stephen Shaw, Blake and wife, Alexis Williamson, Zachary Williamson; step-grandchildren: Cameron Haymon, Jennifer Wilson, Justen Haymon, Willie Brown, Brianna Brown; great-grandchildren: Jacob, Adrian, Deven, Deonna, Braylynn, Brookleigh, Gage, Brogan, Braxleigh, Kate; brother, Jim and wife, Criss Smith; sisters-in-law: Rosemary Smith and Norma Smith; honorary sons; Greg Kowalski, David Jones; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
