Donna Kay Gillies (Roth), 68, of Vassar, Michigan passed away on March 20, 2015 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, unexpectedly, from complications of heart failure. Funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 11:00 am with Paul Werner, Lay minister officiating, with a private burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Saginaw. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday, Donna will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Donna was born in Saginaw, Michigan, to Ervin and Catherine Roth on May 5, 1946. She went to high school at Vassar, Michigan and graduated in 1965. She worked various jobs, including waitress, visiting nurse, office manager. She enjoyed helping people, and was active in the church, community and local Habitat for Humanity chapter. She was active with her family, and was responsible for constant care of her mother in the past several years. Donna is survived by her sister, Jean Mills (Roth) and brother, Charles Roth, children Diane Nelson (Eric), Charles Gillies and James Gillies. grandchildren, Andy Bailey (Sara), Kristina Kippe (Brian), Matthew Lothamer, Bruce Bolyard, Katherine Nelson, Johnathon Nelson, James E. Gillies (Rebecca), Samuel Gillies, Amanda Gillies, Kayla Gillies, Katelyn Gillies, and Alexandra Gillies. great-grandbabies Charlie, Danai, and Evelyn. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Gillies, mother, Catherine Roth and father, Ervin Roth. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, Vassar Community School's Robotic Class or Grace Lutheran Church. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all her good friends and companions, who made her life interesting, productive, and worthwhile.
