David Howard Sordyl

Age 60, of Flint, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021, at home with his family by his side. In accordance with David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am June 29, 2021, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Roy Horning to officiate. The family will be present to receive friends at church from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. After services are concluded, a luncheon will take place at Dom Polski in Flint. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Genesee County Special Olympics or Dom Polski in Flint. Envelopes are available at the church. David was born in Burton on December 15, 1960, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gene and Marvis Josephine (Grow) Sordyl. Educated locally, David graduated from Kearsley High School with the Class of 1980. As a car parts salesman, David worked for Car Quest, Auto Value and Auto Zone, where he loved helping customers with their cars. David was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris for 31 years, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus #4285 in Mt. Morris, He served as a member of the 4th degree Knights as well as a past Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. Bowling on the Knights of Columbus league was one of David’s favorite pastimes and he was the first Knight to bowl a 300. He enjoyed watching his children follow in his footsteps and bowl on that same league with him. David embraced his Polish heritage and was a member of Dom Polski, where he served as President for a time. Before he moved to Mt. Morris, David volunteered for the Burton Fire Department. In his free time, David loved taking pictures at family gatherings, especially his favorite, the family Christmas party. He enjoyed spending time with his family watching NASCAR or Detroit Tigers baseball. Left to cherish David’s memory are his girlfriend, Mary Lamphier; parents: Howard and Marvis Sordyl; sons: James, Sordyl, Joseph Sordyl and, Joshua Sordyl; sisters: Teresa Peake, Laura and husband, Tod Sorensen, Ann Marie Schaefer, Mary Kay and husband, Terry Howell; nieces, nephews, and many cousins; former wife, mother of his children and special friend, Joanie Sordyl; and his dogs Buddy and Charlie. David was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Frank Schaefer, and his grandparents.
